When is research required?
The grant is not issued without first having completed the pre-application process. This process includes:
Requesting written consent from the person being targeted for research and confirming that this person will be participating in any research study
A description of the research, what it will be used for, and whether it involves human subjects or animals
A description of the research plan, including dates, locations, and other details
A description of any potential risks or restrictions to the grantee or the intended use for the research, including the type of research being conducted.
If a research proposal needs to be approved, including from the Human Subjects Committee, it will be submitted to the University’s grant officer for approval. This includes submitting a proposal for the grant and ensuring the details of the plan have been clarified to the Human Subjects Committee. This is very important because a grantee cannot grant a particular research proposal to any person without giving it clear instructions.
