What is a direct grant? – Government Grants For Women Over 50 For Small Business

A direct grant is money that will be used directly by the organization or group for the purposes of the organization’s work. To receive a direct grant, you need to get authorization from the State Board of Education for an organization or group from within the state, and then make sure the organization or group is operating within the scope of its grant.

If you’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, you’re eligible to use this funding for your charitable purposes. But to get approval to use a direct grant, you’ll typically need a certain number of donors from a certain category of institutions or persons.

Your organization or group must have been operating for at least a year in order to qualify for a grant, and a grant doesn’t have to be specifically for your charitable purposes. So even if it’s a 501(c)(3), you could use grant dollars to buy things your organization has been working on.

How do you decide if you’re approved?

Your application for a direct grant will be reviewed by the State Board of Education. If it passes the review:

The State Board will give you a letter of approval for your program – but it’s only for that specific grant category and you only get one.

The State Board may refuse your grant application if you don’t comply with other requirements, such as complying with the requirements of the state’s regulations or the conditions of the grant.

When does the process start and end?

It takes about 90 days to prepare an application for direct grant funding.

In late August to late October, the State Board of Education will review all applications and make a decision in the order the applications were received. Only one grant category is eligible for grant funding.

After October 16, the State Board will hold a special conference.

What are the requirements to apply for a grant?

Before the State Board gives you your letter of approval, you’ll have to have an organization, organization, group or department that is exempt from tax. You also must have the proper tax registration number.

If you’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, you must have a valid tax registration number.

You also need permission from your state. So if the state grants you a grant for $100, it doesn’t cover your grant payments. To use grant support, you’ll need the approval of the state’s governor.
