How much money does 1 million YouTube views make? (That’s \$1.01 in dollars)

A year ago, MarkMonitor analyzed the numbers. They analyzed, among other things, views on videos from both YouTube and Facebook (the only two social media sites that Google owns). Here’s an example of a post with 100,000 views across Facebook and YouTube (the other sites don’t offer data in this way).

If you combine YouTube’s views (100,000) with that of the average user across Facebook (the equivalent is 9.3 million), you get, on average, a grand total of about 1,500 Views.

Facebook is pretty much the same. One million Views on Facebook, and 1,200 Likes on YouTube. If you have 20,000 Likes on Facebook, you get roughly 1150 Views.

But if you are like me, you’re just looking for a good time. I have some friends who subscribe to YouTube, and they all watch about 50,000 videos a month. So if you watch 1,500 videos or more every month on YouTube (including the hundreds of thousands that get lost in the mix on YouTube), you can expect to make about \$50,000 or \$60,000.

As you’ll see if I make you a little more serious, that’s not very big.

But if YouTube is worth all the money I make — and it seems like it is — you should do a little more than that.

How to do a fair share of it

The bottom line is that if your budget is \$30,000-\$50,000, you make somewhere between \$50,000 and \$130,000 per year on YouTube. It’s the same math, but you don’t have to be a mathematician or have data points to know it — you can spend a few hours doing some calculations.

1) If you made \$1,000 in one year on YouTube, and you’re really looking for a new job, you might consider working for a video ad-sales company while you find a better job. Most of us are in that situation, either doing full-time work for small companies or freelancing on a part-time basis.

2) You can take advantage of the fact that you’re getting paid per “link.” That’s YouTube’s term for people who like and comment on your videos. If you have a million
