Most new cameras and lenses that are hitting the market have a wide or high-end viewfinder like the LG G4 – the new G2 is one of the best, but if you already own a camera like the Panasonic NEX-7 or a Sony a6300, then you’ll probably be fine.
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 50mm f/1.8 EX DG (4x)
The Panasonic NEX-7 is an excellent camera, but it’s not as compact as the G4. Its viewfinder takes up just over half the size of the Sony. It’s one of those cameras that’s just a little bit faster than the Sony, which is useful since it can sometimes be a challenge. I prefer to take pictures with the Sony in Live View mode in situations where I need to focus on a specific object and I can pull the shutter from infinity to focus on the subject in the frame without touching the LCD screen.
The Canon 7D Mark II
The Canon 7D Mark II was the first big leap forward. The old 7D didn’t have the capabilities of the new X Mark II, so I was happy with the camera’s image quality from the outset. The smaller APS-C CMOS sensor makes it faster, but the X-T1 is still one of the best compact cameras on the market.
The Leica M Typ 240
Despite having the same sensor size as the Sony a6300 – a full pixel larger and a half the weight – the Leica M Typ 240 is a much lighter body so you can use a lot of it. It’s also the best-feeling DSLR body I’ve tried.
The Fuji X-T2
As you can see from the example above – the X-T2’s body takes up half the space in the frame and it weighs considerably less. It’s not perfect, but it does a better job.
Why is an APS-C sensor so good?
APS-C sensors are smaller, so they have more dynamic range. This provides you a wider resolution so you can get good-looking images like photos taken with the X-T1, but it also means you get significantly less noise than you would with an APS-C sensor of even the same size.
It also leads to longer exposure times, with the smaller sensor offering a little less lag time when you take a picture.
