It varies, but some coaches might schedule as long as an hour – or even two hours. I’ve tried to figure out the best way to divide them so that you can focus on getting your most important lifts done – and so you don’t miss a session as soon as a new coach comes in. Most of our trainers get on pretty much every night from 5:00 to 9:00 pm local time, with lunch, after the classes, and between groups after the next morning’s classes. I’ve also found that some coaches have a day-job or are too busy to come in every night as their only job, so you might be spending the time with a few regulars. Also, some coaches only come in for a week at a time, and some coaches might just go out to dinner with their families. As you can see, you will need to have a schedule that you follow.
How can I be sure I’m getting my most important training?
One of the most important variables in determining how effective a coach is is how they teach. A good coach will be able to make good recommendations for improving particular things. However, you can’t always predict what a coach – or a particular coach – is going to teach you. One thing to keep in mind is that you’ll get better with every single session.
You might be able to train harder or push harder, but when you first start with a new coach it might seem impossible to achieve some of the gains of the previous session. However, once you understand why you have been doing the exercises and what the best way to progress is, you have more control over your training. Most of the time you’ll actually want to train with the same coach – so don’t feel bad if a session gets a bit long. The more sessions you’re taking a coach to, the longer he or she can make improvements in the way you train.
There are some trainers that will only come every 6 weeks or more, which might lead to some very hard and hard to keep up work from a training program. In those cases, make sure you are constantly in touch with your new coach – I’ve seen more than 20 “free sessions” to help you become acquainted with the coach so you understand him or her, and understand who he or she is helping you.
