It is a daily process of trying to break a bad habit without losing sight of what matters most in life.
What’s the biggest mistake you’ve ever made?
Having too many bad habits, I suppose, but never enough good ones.
Do you use willpower to overcome bad habits? Do you know someone (if so, what?) who can help you with that? What’s your top 3 biggest habits to break?
I’m trying very hard to get into writing. I started with a short story called “The King of Pain,” which I published a few months ago. It was one of those things—I loved the style, but I thought it was a bit too on the nose and lacked a certain edge to it. I wrote that one down and worked at it over the next few months, only to eventually come up with “The King of Pain.”
What would be your ideal gift for someone you know?
I think people should ask me what they should ask me to do. I think they should do what you wish you did as much as you wish you could do it. This is what gives the most meaning to me. I wish I could be a photographer, do some work that I’m passionate about.
What do you think is the most important aspect of “The King of Pain” that people have missed?
It’s a beautiful book. It’s very funny in places, but it’s very dark, and people have probably only read the parts where all my relationships break down in some way and I’ve gone out of my way to try and be the person that needs to take a stand. This book is a snapshot of life in 2010. At the same times, it also shows me a lot of the things that have become easier over the past 2 years. The world is getting worse the more that I watch it.
