There are 4 different types of social dancing that you’ll be seeing from students around the world: Dancing to Music, Dance to the Beat of the Music, Dance to the Music of the World and Dance to the beat of the World. Here are a few examples that you’re likely to hear in dance courses:
Musical, or Traditional Dance – This is the traditional form of dance that you’ll be seeing in dance schools in all over the world – dance schools that don’t use computers and cell phones. You’ll also see this form of dance in many of the traditional American dance schools.
Electronic Dance – This is the latest form of dance technology that is gaining ground in almost every country, including the United States. It is danced in public halls and dance clubs and in the homes of the super wealthy. The Dance Electronic Movement (DEMA) was invented by Professor John S. McPhee (of MIT) on the grounds of MIT in 1972 as a form of dance that uses the “lightning” motion of the dancefloor to move across the surface without touching the earth. It combines the dancing and music of traditional ballet with the dance movement of the “Drama Dance.” Dance Electronic Movement (DEMA) was invented by Professor John S. Classical Dance – This is the form of dance that we all know from dance classes (at the college level) in our own schools. It can even be found throughout Hollywood.
Dance to the Beat of the Music – This is another dance form that is gaining popularity across the world – in countries like France and China. While this form of dancing is different than the musical, the two dances are often danced together to the beat of the music of the song.
Classical Dancing – So far most of what we’ve discussed is the musical or traditional forms of dancing, but there’s more than one form of dance. This dance form includes both traditional dance and a new form of movement called dance to the beat of the world.
The key to Dance to the music of the song is to use the rhythms and rhythm lines that are written on the back of the record that have been played for many years. A good example of
